THE WAY WE BREATHe DIRECTLY IMPACTS HOW WE FEEL MOMENT TO MOMENT, OUR BRAIN MONITORS OUR BREATHING AND RESPONDS ACCORDINGLY TO THE MESSAGES IT IS SENT.
Fast, shallow, laboured breathing is interpreted by the brain that our environment isn’t safe, the consequence of this is that we stay in a state of anxiousness, agitation and lose the ability to concentrate due to the brain thinking we are under threat.
Our internal narrative we play in our heads is largely influenced by how we feel in the body, through interoception, which is a lesser known sense that helps you understand and feel what is going on in your body.
How are you supposed to focus, concentrate and access flow state to achieve optimal performance before an important presentation, job interview, board meeting or sporting event if you are not in control of your breath? Not very well is the answer, or at least not optimally.
